Learning PHP Data Objects: A Beginner's Guide to PHP Data Objects, Database Connection Abstraction Library for PHP 5

Publisher: Packt Publishing | ISBN: 1847192661 | edition 2007 | PDF | 188 pages | 2.7 mb

PDO is lighter, faster, and more powerful than existing PHP data abstraction interfaces. PDO is a common interface to different databases that must be used with a database-specific PDO driver to access a particular database server: the PDO extension does not provide a database abstraction by itself; it doesn't rewrite SQL, emulate missing database features, or perform any database functions using by itself.

Essential PHP Security by Chris Shiflett

Essential PHP Security by Chris Shiflett
Publisher: O'Reilly Media (November 1, 2005) | ISBN-10: 059600656X | CHM | 0,4 Mb | 109 pages

Being highly flexible in building dynamic, database-driven web applications makes the PHP programming language one of the most popular web development tools in use today. It also works beautifully with other open source tools, such as the MySQL database and the Apache web server. However, as more web sites are developed in PHP, they become targets for malicious attackers, and developers need to prepare for the attacks.
Security is an issue that demands attention, given the growing frequency of attacks on web sites. Essential PHP Security explains the most common types of attacks and how to write code that isn't susceptible to them. By examining specific attacks and the techniques used to protect against them, you will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the safeguards you are about to learn in this book.
In the much-needed (and highly-requested) Essential PHP Security, each chapter covers an aspect of a web application (such as form processing, database programming, session management, and authentication). Chapters describe potential attacks with examples and then explain techniques to help you prevent those attacks.
Topics covered include:
— Preventing cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities — Protecting against SQL injection attacks — Complicating session hijacking attempts
You are in good hands with author Chris Shiflett, an internationally-recognized expert in the field of PHP security. Shiflett is also the founder and President of Brain Bulb, a PHP consultancy that offers a variety of services to clients around the world.

PHP 6 and MySQL 5 for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide

PHP 6 and MySQL 5 for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide
Publisher: Peachpit Press | 2007 | 648 Pages | ISBN: 032152599X | PDF | 13,4 MB

It hasn't taken Web developers long to discover that when it comes to creating dynamic, database-driven Web sites, MySQL and PHP provide a winning open source combination. Add this book to the mix, and there's no limit to the powerful, interactive Web sites that developers can create. With step-by-step instructions, complete scripts, and expert tips to guide readers, veteran author and database designer Larry Ullman gets right down to business: After grounding readers with separate discussions of first the scripting language (PHP) and then the database program (MySQL), he goes on to cover security, sessions and cookies, and using additional Web tools, with several sections devoted to creating sample applications. This guide is indispensable for intermediate- to advanced level Web designers who want to replace their static sites with something dynamic. In this edition, the bulk of the new material covers the latest versions of both technologies: PHP 6 (due out in 2008) and MySQL 5 (available now). The book's publication date is likely to beat the official release of PHP 6, making it one of the first books available on the subject.

In this comprehensive guide to creating an e-commerce Web site using PHP and MySQL, renowned author Larry Ullman walks you through every step—designing the visual interface, creating the database, presenting content, generating an online catalog, managing the shopping cart, handling the order and the payment process, and fulfilling the order—always with security and best practices emphasized along the way.

Even if you’re an experienced Web developer, you’re guaranteed to learn something new. Beginning PHP and MySQL 5 From Novice to Professional Second Edition

Most great programming books sway far more toward the realm of the practical than of the academic. Although I have no illusions regarding my place among the great technical authors of our time, it is always my goal to write with this point in mind, producing material that you can apply to your own situation. Given the size of this book, it’s probably apparent that I attempt to squeeze out every last drop of such practicality from the subject matter. That said, if you’re interested in gaining practical and comprehensive insight into the PHP programming language and MySQL database server, and how these prominent technologies can be used together to create dynamic, database-driven Web applications, this book is for you. In the 18 months since the first edition of this book was published, the PHP and MySQL communities have continued to work feverishly to advance the capabilities of these two prominent technologies. Accordingly, this revision could not have come without the addition of a substantial amount of new material, to the tune of more than 100 additional pages. In total, seven new chapters have been added. Three of these chapters are devoted to PHP-specific topics, including the PHP Extension and Application Repository (PEAR), date and time functionality, and the PHP Data Objects (PDO) extension. Four additional chapters cover PHP 5’s mysqli extension, and MySQL 5’s new stored routine, trigger, and view functionality. Furthermore, all existing chapters have been carefully revised, and in some cases heavily modified, to both update and improve upon the first edition material.

Pro PHP Refactoring

Pro PHP Refactoring By Francesco Trucchia, Jacopo Romei
Publisher: Apress 2010 | 360 Pages | ISBN: 1430227273 | PDF | 2 MB

Many businesses and organizations depend on older high-value PHP software that risks abandonment because it is impossible to maintain. The reasons for this may be that the software is not well designed; there is only one developer (the one who created the system) who can develop it because he didn’t use common design patterns and documentation; or the code is procedural, not object oriented. With this book, you’ll learn to identify problem code and refactor it to create more effective applications using test-driven design.

What you’ll learn
What refactoring is and why you need to refactor code
What test-driven design is and why you need to test your code
How to write unit and functional tests with PHPUnit and Selenium Remote Control (RC)
How to detect “bad smells” in PHP code, and refactor them using test-driven design
How to refactor a large procedural application affected by many bad smells
Who is this book for?
This book is for PHP developers, businesses, and developers relying on legacy PHP apps.
