The Myelodysplastic Syndromes

Judit Várkonyi, "The Myelodysplastic Syndromes"
Sp rin ger | 2011 | ISBN: 9400704399 | 299 pages | PDF | 12,1 MB

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are the most common hematological malignancies involving mostly the elderly population. The major morbidity relates to patients’ symptomatic cytopenias.MDS was previously named as “preleukemia “ or “ smoldering leukemia” as the lack of terminal cells in MDS and because about 25% of all cases progresses into acute myeloid leukemia.

According to various reports the annual incidence of MDS ranges widely from 2-12 per 100.000, increasing to 30-50 cases per 100.000 among persons aged 70 or older. It is believed that the true incidence of MDS have been underestimated however it seems to be comparable to that for multiple myeloma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

In the past decade much progress had been made; we know more on the disease pathology, there is more emphasis on the care and more targeted therapy had been invested.

Zohra Zaidi, S.W Lanigan, "Dermatology in Clinical Practice"
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1848828616 | edition 2009 | PDF | 596 pages | 24.5 mb

More unusual diseases and syndromes are only mentioned where necessary. The first line physician’s needs are kept in mind while writing each chapter, e.g. the chapter on cutaneous signs of systemic disease is described in more detail in comparison to other short books on dermatology, because physicians in the front line of patient management regularly deal with a vast number of medical problems.

The book is designed to be short, clear and easy to read, with an emphasis on practical relevant information. It has been designed expressly to assist primary care physicians, residents and fellows in dermatology, and emergency medicine and other first line medical personnel.

A Courtesan's Scandal - Julia London

A Courtesan's Scandal - Julia London
Pocket | Original edition | October 20 2009 | English | ISBN-10: 1416547126 | PDF | 283 pages | 1.01 Mb

Kate Bergeron is the beautiful and mysterious former mistress of a cloth merchant...and the latest beauty to capture the interest of the Prince of Wales. Mired in a disastrous divorce, the Prince attempts to distract attention from his next amorous pursuit by ordering Grayson Christopher, the eligible Duke of Darlington, to pretend to London society that he is having an affair with Kate. When Grayson reluctantly agrees to his Prince's demand, he finds the lady no more willing than he is. Kate will grudgingly act the part in public, but her favors are not for sale to any man.
As Grayson and Kate mimic ardor for the world to see, they find what started as a deception becoming all too real. And when passion flames into love, their predicament becomes extreme. For while marriage between a duke and a courtesan could never happen, Kate knows in her heart that she is willing to accept nothing less....

From Booklist
*Starred Review* Grayson Christopher, the Duke of Darlington, already had a mistress; he didn’t need another. But when the Prince of Wales, who is currently entangled in a bitter divorce, asks Darlington to take courtesan Kate Bergeron as his latest amour—but in name only—Darlington realizes George wants Darlington to take Kate “off the market” until the prince is free to take Kate as his own mistress. At first Darlington is determined to have as little to do with Kate as possible, but the more time he spends with Kate, the more Darlington discovers just how tempting the practical, kindhearted, and surprisingly sharp-tongued woman is. Suddenly, Darlington, the very definition of restraint and decorum, finds himself risking scandal and social ruin for the one woman he can never have. London deftly brews up potent chemistry between a heroine who knows her place in the world and a hero who discovers his world is not complete without her. Another superbly written addition to London’s exquisitely entertaining Regency-set Scandal series. --John Charles

The War of the Worlds (1898), by H. G. Wells, is an early science fiction novel which describes an invasion of England by aliens from Mars.
