Protein Chaperones and Protection from Neurodegenerative Diseases

Protein Chaperones and Protection from Neurodegenerative Diseases
Stephan N. Witt, "Protein Chaperones and Protection from Neurodegenerative Diseases"
W,..ey | 2011 | ISBN: 0470569077 | 448 pages | PDF | 23,5 MB

How protein chaperones protect cells from neurodegenerative diseases

Including contributions from leading experts, Protein Chaperones and Protection from Neurodegenerative Diseases provides an in-depth exploration of how protein chaperones are involved in shielding cells from toxic aggregated or misfolded protein states that cause ALS, Parkinson's, and related diseases.

Examining how different protein chaperones ameliorate the toxicity of proteins that are known to cause neurodegenerative damage, the book addresses both research and clinical perspectives on chaperone and anti-chaperone properties. The intersection of molecular chaperones and neurodegeneration is an intensely studied area, partly because of the potential for manipulating the expression of molecular chaperones to thwart the progression of debilitating diseases, and partly because of the ever-aging global population.

Discussing the potential to harness the power of protein chaperones, and future directions for research, discovery, and therapeutics, this book is essential reading for scientists working in the fields of biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmacology and drug discovery, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, advanced students, and anyone interested in this cutting-edge topic.

Epigenetics and Chromatin (Progress in Molecular and Subcellular Biology)
Springer; 1 edition | May 25, 2005 | ISBN-10: 3540233725 | 280 pages | PDF | 7.4 MB

Epigenetics refers to heritable patterns of gene expression which do not depend on alterations of genomic DNA sequence.
This book provides a state-of-the-art account of a few selected hot spots by scientists at the edge in this extremely active field. It puts special emphasis on two main streams of research. One is the role of post-translational modifications of proteins, mostly histones, on chromatin structure and accessibility. The other one deals with parental genomic imprinting, a process which allows to express a few selected genes from only one of the parental allele while extinguishing the other.

Description  :

Harry Potter aur Rahasyamayi Tehkhana (Hindi)  by J. K. Rowling is the second novel in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling. The plot follows Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, during which a series of messages on the walls on the school's corridors warn that the "Chamber of Secrets" has been opened and that the "heir of Slytherin" will kill all pupils who do not come from all-magical families. These threats are followed by attacks which leave residents of the school "petrified" (that is, frozen). Throughout the year, Harry and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger investigate the attacks, and Harry is confronted by Lord Voldemort, who is attempting to regain full power.

The book was published in the United Kingdom on 2 July 1998 by Bloomsbury and in the United States on 2 June 1999 by Scholastic Inc. Although Rowling found it difficult to finish the book, it won high praise and awards from critics, young readers and the book industry, although some critics thought the story was perhaps too frightening for younger children. Some religious authorities have condemned its use of magical themes, while others have praised its emphasis on self-sacrifice and on the way in which a person's character is the result of the person's choices

Description  :

Readers beware. The brilliant, breathtaking conclusion to J.K. Rowling's spellbinding series is not for the faint of heart--such revelations, battles, and betrayals await in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that no fan will make it to the end unscathed. Luckily, Rowling has prepped loyal readers for the end of her series by doling out increasingly dark and dangerous tales of magic and mystery, shot through with lessons about honor and contempt, love and loss, and right and wrong. Fear not, you will find no spoilers in our review--to tell the plot would ruin the journey, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is an odyssey the likes of which Rowling's fans have not yet seen, and are not likely to forget. But we would be remiss if we did not offer one small suggestion before you embark on your final adventure with Harry--bring plenty of tissues.

The heart of Book 7 is a hero's mission--not just in Harry's quest for the Horcruxes, but in his journey from boy to man--and Harry faces more danger than that found in all six books combined, from the direct threat of the Death Eaters and you-know-who, to the subtle perils of losing faith in himself. Attentive readers would do well to remember Dumbledore's warning about making the choice between "what is right and what is easy," and know that Rowling applies the same difficult principle to the conclusion of her series. While fans will find the answers to hotly speculated questions about Dumbledore, Snape, and you-know-who, it is a testament to Rowling's skill as a storyteller that even the most astute and careful reader will be taken by surprise.

A spectacular finish to a phenomenal series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a bittersweet read for fans. The journey is hard, filled with events both tragic and triumphant, the battlefield littered with the bodies of the dearest and despised, but the final chapter is as brilliant and blinding as a phoenix's flame, and fans and skeptics alike will emerge from the confines of the story with full but heavy hearts, giddy and grateful for the experience. --Daphne Durham

Fundamentals of Mathematics By James Van Dyke

Fundamentals of Mathematics By James Van Dyke
Fundamentals of Mathematics By James Van Dyke
The FUNDAMENTALS OF MATHEMATICS, Tenth Edition, offers a comprehensive and objectives-based review of all basic mathematics concepts. The author helps learners by addressing three important needs: 1) establishing good study habits and overcoming math anxiety, 2) making the connections between mathematics and their modern, day-to-day activities, and 3) being paced and challenged according to their individual level of understanding. The clear exposition and the consistency of presentation make learning arithmetic accessible for all. Key concepts presented in section objectives--and further defined within the context of How and Why--provide a strong foundation for learning and lasting comprehension. With a predominant emphasis on problem-solving skills, concepts, and applications based on "real world" data (with some introductory algebra integrated throughout), this book is suitable for individual study or for a variety of course formats: lab, self-paced, lecture, group, or combined formats.

12-Lead EKG Confidence: A Step-by-Step Guide

12-Lead EKG Confidence: A Step-by-Step Guide
Confidence: A Step-by-Step Guide
In this 12-Lead EKG Confidence: A Step-by-Step Guide  book  The step-by-step approach is easy to understand, and the practice EKGs at the end of each chapter help to solidify the information learned. What I like most about the book is that the chapters are short and the explanations are concise. The author does a great job of incorporating just what you need to know in the context of clinical correlates. After reading this book, EKGs are no longer overwhelming and I can approach them with confidence. If you read this book, you will be sure not to miss a beat! It is definitely a must-have for medical students and residents.
This 12-Lead EKG Confidence: A Step-by-Step Guide book is even better written than the first edition (which was probably the best EKG book I’ve read to begin with) and makes some concepts a little easier to understand such as getting a good appreciation for Axis, something that always gave me trouble.  It didn’t take long to see that this book is amazing in the level of detail it provides, yet is written in such an easy to understand way that it truly does build confidence. This book focuses on learning EKG concepts and actually getting to the bottom of what it all really means, (as opposed to other EKG books that focus on memorizing patterns with no real foundational comprehension.) I would recommend this book to any medical student or resident and assure you that it will make you confident in reading EKG’s.
