Nagendra Natha Datta is about to travel by boat. It is the month Joisto (May - June), the time of storms. His wife, Surja Mukhi, had adjured him, saying, "Be careful; if a storm arises be sure you fasten the boat to the shore. Do not remain in the boat." Nagendra had consented to this, otherwise Surja Mukhi would not have permitted him to leave home; and unless he went to Calcutta his suits in the Courts would not prosper. Nagendra Natha was a young man, about thirty years of age, a wealthy zemindar (landholder) in Zillah Govindpur. He dwelt in a small village which we shall call Haripur. He was travelling in his own boat. The first day or two passed without obstacle. The river flowed smoothly on - leaped, danced, cried out, restless, unending, playful. On shore, herdsmen were grazing their oxen - one sitting under a tree singing, another smoking, some fighting, others eating. Inland, husbandmen were driving the plough, beating the oxen, lavishing abuse upon them, in which the owner shared.

Madhushala (Hindi: मधुशाला) (The Tavern/The House of Wine), is a book of 135 "quatrains": verses of four lines ("Ruba'i) by Hindi poet and writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan (1907-2003). The highly metaphorical work is still celebrated for its deeply Sufi incantations and philosophical undertones [1] and is an important work in the Chhayavaad (Hindi: छायावाद) (Impressionism) literary movement of early 20th century Hindi literature.
All the rubaaiaa (the plural for rubaai) end in the word madhushala. The poet tries to explain the complexity of life with his four instruments, which appear in almost every verse: madhu, madira or haala (wine), saaki (server), pyaala (cup or glass) and of course madhushala, madiralaya (pub/bar).
First published in 1935, the work got Harivanshrai Bachchan instant fame, especially when his own recitation of the poems became a craze at kavi sammelans (Poetry symposiums) , the book still sells briskly: the present publisher of the book regularly releases 2 to 3 editions every year. When first published, it met criticism from many people for its apparent praise of alcohol. As noted in Bachchan's autobiography, after listening to the poems Mahatma Gandhi stated that these criticisms were unwarranted.
Madhushala was part his trilogy inspired by the Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat, which he had earlier translated into Hindi. The other titles in the trilogy were Madhubala (मधुबाला) (1936) and Madhukalash (मधुकलश) (1937) .

हाइकु मूल रूप से जापानी कविता है। यह तीन पंक्तियों में लिखी जाती है । हिंदी हाइकु के लिए पहली पंक्ति में ५ अक्षर, दूसरी में ७ अक्षर और तीसरी पंक्ति में ५ अक्षर, इस प्रकार कुल १७ अक्षर होने चाहिए। हाइकु अनेक भाषाओं में लिखे जाते हैं लेकिन वर्णों या पदों की गिनती का क्रम अलग-अलग होता है। तीन पंक्तियों का नियम सभी में अपनाया जाता है। हाइकु मूलरूप से प्रकृति की कविता हॅ। एक अच्छे हाइकु में ऋतुसूचक शब्द आना चाहिए। हाइकु, प्रकृति तथा प्राणिमात्र के प्रति प्रेम का भाव मन में जगाता हॅ। हिन्दी में हाइकु लिखने की दिशा में बहुत तेजी आई है। लगभग सभी पत्र-पत्रिकाएँ हाइकु कविताएँ प्रकाशित कर रही हैं। आकाशवाणी द्वारा हाइकु कविताओं को कविगोष्ठियों के माध्यम से प्रसारित किया जा रहा है। लगभग ३०० (तीन सौ) से अधिक हिन्दीहाइकु संकलन हिन्दी में प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं।
