Inorganic Chemistry: Principles of Structure and Reactivity, 4th Edition

Inorganic Chemistry: Principles of Structure and Reactivity, 4th Edition
James E. Huheey, "Inorganic Chemistry: Principles of Structure and Reactivity, 4th Edition"
Pr,,ce H..ll |1997 | ISBN: 006042995X | 964 pages | PDF | 126 MB

This book is a fantastic approach for Inorganic Chemistry! Far from the usual descriptive inorganic chemistry found in other books, Huheey's work is a complete and thorough guide to undergraduate students; it explains important subjects which are left out in other works. The chapters about bonding are specially well written and have good information that can be well understood by chemistry students. There is only one little flaw, its lack of colored pictures. It may seem silly, but some students can be greatly encouraged by this. It is a great book and I recomend it to anyone who plans to partake an Inorganic Chemistry course.

Sampling and Sample Preparation in Field and Laboratory

Sampling and Sample Preparation in Field and Laboratory By Janusz Pawliszyn
Publisher: Els..evier Sci..ence 2002 | 1166 Pages | ISBN: 0444505105 | PDF | 71 MB

This title is the first comprehensive book on sampling and modern sample preparation techniques and has several main objectives: to facilitate recognition of sample preparation as both an integral part of the analytical process; to present a fundamental basis and unified theoretical approach for the professional development of sample preparation; to emphasize new developments in sample preparation technology; and to highlight the future impact of sample preparation on new directions in analytical science, particularly automation, miniaturization and field implementation.

Until recently, there has been relatively little scientific interest in sampling and sample preparation, however this situation is presently changing as sampling and sample preparation become integral parts of the analytical process with their own unique challenges and research opportunities.

Sampling and Sample Preparation for Field and Laboratory is an essential resource for all analytical chemists, and in particular those involved in method development. Not only does it cover the fundamental aspects of extraction, it also covers applications in various matrices and includes sampling strategies and equipment and how these can be integrated into the analytical process for maximum efficiency.

E.L. Doctorow - The Waterworks: A Novel

E.L. Doctorow - The Waterworks: A Novel
Publisher: Random House Trade Paperbacks (May 8, 2007) | Language: English | ISBN-10: 0812978196 | EPUB + MOBI | 272 pages | 0.2 mb + 0.2 mb

Each novel by Doctorow is an entirely different experience, a journey of the imagination into hitherto uncharted territory. The Waterworks , set in the corrupt but hideously exciting New York of the decade following the Civil War, is the strangest such journey yet. The narrator, an elderly newspaperman named McIlvaine, recalls the bizarre events surrounding the disappearance of one of his paper's best freelance writers in 1871. Martin Pemberton was the son of Augustus Pemberton, a brutal, cunning man who had made a fortune as a war profiteer, then died, leaving his family mysteriously penniless. Martin was convinced he had seen his father alive, in a coach in the company of other old men; then Martin vanished. McIlvaine interests the municipal police, in the person of odd, incorruptible Captain Edmund Donne, and together they ferret out a weird scheme in which aging millionaires have paid the brilliant, cold-blooded Dr. Sartorius to preserve their lives in a state of suspended animation. The tale has the brightly lit intensity and surreality of a dream, heightened by McIlvaine's halting, amazed narration; and such is the power of Doctorow's imagination that the very city itself, its burgeoning modernity, its huge machines, its febrile citizenry, seems to become a major actor in the drama. World's Fair and Billy Bathgate were both given a human dimension by their child's-eye point of view. Here Doctorow is taking a larger risk by placing the reader at a much greater distance from the events and subduing his contemporary sensibility in favor of a wonderfully convincing 19th-century angle of vision. It is as if Edgar Allan Poe and Henry James had somehow combined their incompatible geniuses to bring this profoundly haunting fable to life.

Kelly Bingham - Shark Girl

Kelly Bingham - Shark Girl
Publisher: Candlewick | ISBN: 076364627X | 2010 | EPUB/MOBI | 288 pages | 487 KB/477 KB
Jane Arrowood wonders if she will forever be known as the "Shark Girl," who survived a shark attack on a golden California June day. A popular 15-year-old with true artistic talent and a strong circle of friends, Jane suddenly feels extraordinarily different with a prosthesis where her arm should be, and, worse, pain and itching where it used to be. Why shouldn't she feel sorry for herself? Sometimes she almost wishes that she hadn't survived. Why shouldn't she feel different? In carefully constructed, sparsely crafted free verse, Bingham's debut novel offers a strong view of a teenager struggling to survive and learn to live again. Her metaphors are authentic, visual, and lovely, and she uses spacing between words to telegraph the pauses in awkward conversations when family and friends try but fail to address the real conversation--her missing arm. It's a familiar story line written in a fresh voice, one that will be justifiably popular.

Gossip Girl: A Novel By Cecily Von Ziegesar
I've watch the TV Show Gossip Girl and am hooked on the gossipy fun and fantastic fashions. While the book lacks in the eye candy, it makes up for it by bringing on the extra scandalous gossip. The kids in the novel are dirtier and shameless. It is certainly different than the TV show but still a very quick and fun read. Suspend your beliefs and just enjoy Gossip Girl, poolside.

Encyclopedia of Fish Physiology: From Genome to Environment

Anthony P. Farrell, "Encyclopedia of Fish Physiology: From Genome to Environment"
Aca emic Pre ss | 2011 | ISBN: 0123745454 | 2272 pages | PDF | 69,8 MB

Fish form an extremely diverse group of vertebrates. At a conservative estimate at least 40% of the world's vertebrates are fish. On the one hand they are united by their adaptations to an aquatic environment and on the other they show a variety of adaptations to differing environmental conditions - often to extremes of temperature, salinity, oxygen level and water chemistry. They exhibit an array of behavioural and reproductive systems. Interesting in their own right, this suite of adaptive physiologies provides many model systems for both comparative vertebrate and human physiologists.

This four volume encyclopedia covers the diversity of fish physiology in over 300 articles and provides entry level information for students and summary overviews for researchers alike.

Broadly organised into four themes, articles cover Functional, Thematic, and Phylogenetic Physiology, and Fish Genomics

Functional articles address the traditional aspects of fish physiology that are common to all areas of vertebrate physiology including: Reproduction, Respiration, Neural (Sensory, Central, Effector), Endocrinology, Renal, Cardiovascular, Acid-base Balance, Osmoregulation, Ionoregulation, Digestion, Metabolism, Locomotion, and so on.

Thematic Physiology articles are carefully selected and fewer in number. They provide a level of integration that goes beyond the coverage in the Functional Physiology topics and include discussions of Toxicology, Air-breathing, Migrations, Temperature, Endothermy, etc.

Phylogenetic Physiology articles bring together information that bridges the physiology of certain groupings of fishes where the knowledge base has a sufficient depth and breadth and include articles on Ancient Fishes, Tunas, Sharks, etc.

Genomics articles describe the underlying genetic component of fish physiology and high light their suitability and use as model organisms for the study of disease, stress and physiological adaptations and reactions to external conditions.

* The definitive encyclopedia for the field of Fish Physiology.
* Three volumes which comprehensively cover the entire field in over 300 entries written by experts.
* Detailed coverage of basic Functional Physiology of fishes, Physiological Themes in Fish Biology and Comparative Physiology amongst taxonomic Groups.
* Describes the genomic bases of fish physiology and biology and the use of fish as model organisms in human physiological research.
* Includes a glossary of terms.

Process Engineering and Design Using Visual Basic

Process Engineering and Design Using Visual Basic
Publisher: CRC Press | 2008 | ISBN: 1420045423 | Pages: 472 | PDF | 18,65 MB

Software tools are a great aid to process engineers, but too much dependence on such tools can often lead to inappropriate and suboptimal designs. Reliance on software is also a hindrance without a firm understanding of the principles underlying its operation, since users are still responsible for devising the design. In Process Engineering and Design Using Visual Basic, Arun K. Datta provides a unique and versatile suite of programs along with simultaneous development of the underlying concepts, principles, and mathematics. Each chapter details the theory and techniques that provide the basis for design and engineering software and then showcases the development and utility of programs developed using the material outlined in the chapter. This all-inclusive guide works systematically from basic mathematics to fluid mechanics, separators, overpressure protection, and glycol dehydration, providing basic design guidelines based on international codes. Worked examples demonstrate the utility of each program, while the author also explains problems and limitations associated with the simulations. After reading this book you will be able to immediately put these programs into action and have total confidence in the result, regardless of your level of experience. All nine programs are available on the companion CD-ROM, including a useful unit conversion tool.

These agents are discrete, often of natural origin, and provide predictable therapeutic responses. As such, they avoid many of the practical difficulties associated with gene and protein therapies. This handbook will enable interested clinician scientists and others to rapidly survey the field, thus ascertaining what has been done and as well as future directions for therapeutic research. Its important introductory chapters discuss the infrastructure of the field. These chapters focus on an introduction to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, a description of the FDA Office of Orphan Products, and a summary of the operation of the National Institutes of Health Office of Rare Diseases. The remainder of the book is devoted to a review of small molecule therapy for genetic diseases. The book closely analyzes the cofactors used to augment the function of defective enzymes and the compounds that are able to utilize an alternative pathway in order to avoid the consequences of the metabolic block present in the patient. Among other therapies, the authors discuss the use of zinc and tetrathiomolybdate to treat Wilson's disease and the use of cysteamine to treat nephropathic cystinosis.

Robotics, Vision and Control: Fundamental Algorithms in MATLAB

Peter Corke, "Robotics, Vision and Control: Fundamental Algorithms in MATLAB"
S nger | 2011 | ISBN: 3642201431 | 596 pages | PDF | 182 MB

The practice of robotics and computer vision both involve the application of computational algorithms to data. Over the fairly recent history of the fields of robotics and computer vision a very large body of algorithms has been developed. However this body of knowledge is something of a barrier for anybody entering the field, or even looking to see if they want to enter the field — What is the right algorithm for a particular problem?, and importantly, How can I try it out without spending days coding and debugging it from the original research papers? The author has maintained two open-source MATLAB Toolboxes for more than 10 years: one for robotics and one for vision. The key strength of the Toolboxes provide a set of tools that allow the user to work with real problems, not trivial examples. For the student the book makes the algorithms accessible, the Toolbox code can be read to gain understanding, and the examples illustrate how it can be used —instant gratification in just a couple of lines of MATLAB code. The code can also be the starting point for new work, for researchers or students, by writing programs based on Toolbox functions, or modifying the Toolbox code itself. The purpose of this book is to expand on the tutorial material provided with the toolboxes, add many more examples, and to weave this into a narrative that covers robotics and computer vision separately and together. The author shows how complex problems can be decomposed and solved using just a few simple lines of code, and hopefully to inspire up and coming researchers. The topics covered are guided by the real problems observed over many years as a practitioner of both robotics and computer vision. It is written in a light but informative style, it is easy to read and absorb, and includes a lot of Matlab examples and figures. The book is a real walk through the fundamentals of robot kinematics, dynamics and joint level control, then camera models, image processing, feature extraction and epipolar geometry, and bring it all together in a visual servo system.

Description  :

The current market for CSS books seems to fall into two categories: technical treatises that cover CSS in a structured fashion, and cookbooks aimed at designers who have already mastered the basic principles of CSS. What's missing is a book that enables beginners to start improving the look of their websites without first needing to wade through dense explanations of technical details. This book aims to fill that gap by using hands-on tutorials, building up knowledge of CSS gradually. A similar approach is taken by "Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML" (competing title #2, on which I was the main technical reviewer). However, "Getting StartED with CSS" will distinguish itself by providing reference sections in each chapter, so the reader will be able to go back later to find important details without needing to scour through the tutorial steps.
"Getting StartED with CSS" will help readers avoid the common beginner's mistake of over-reliance on classes by teaching them first how to redefine the look of HTML tags. Classes and other selectors will be introduced only at a later stage, after the basic concepts of defining properties and understanding the cascade have been thoroughly covered. Emphasis will also be placed on avoiding unnecessary duplication of properties (e.g., using the font-family in every style rule). Readers will be taught not only the rules of CSS, but how to use CSS efficiently.
